Your Christmas Baking Planning and Preparations
My favourite memories of Christmas are ones spent in the kitchen baking the Christmas cake with my Nana, or making cookies and truffles with the boys on Christmas eve. Although its still a while to go until Christmas it’s never to early to begin preparations and start planning your baking especially if your on a budget.
Practice your recipes if you aren’t the best of bakers, believe me it’s taken me a lot of practice!. I used to be a disaster in the kitchen. If baking isn’t your bag skip this read. As it gets nearer to the time, i’m going to hunt down the tastiest and cheapest treats and share them with you.
Now is the time to check you have the equipment you need. There’s still lots of time. You could buy an item per week and if you are on a budget check out the value ranges in most shops. You don’t need a state of the art mixer, a simple hand mixer will do.
If you have elder members of the family ask if they have any favourite recipes they would like to hand down to you, it carries on lovely traditions. I love to get ideas from Pinterest, simply type in Christmas baking and you will be faced with a host of fantastic recipes where you’ll get a feel of what you hope to make.
A lot of recipes can be made in advance and freeze well. I’m going to make mine well ahead of time, freeing up my time in December to enjoy Christmas.
Start NOW buying your ingredients, adding one or two items to your trolley is going to ease your pocket and by the time you need them you will have most of them to hand.
Now make your Plan
Once you have lots of lovely recipes make a plan of what occasions you want to bake for. Do you plan to bake for yourself, your kids teachers, family parties, gifts for neighbors? One of my plans for Christmas eve this year is to take the neighbors some tasty treats, I think they’ll love to see Reece’s excitement on Christmas eve. The majority of my neighbors are retired and elderly and no better time to share with them.
